A few facts about WFRS:
Started by a small group of “ferret lovers” out of a single garage in Bellevue, Washington, WFRS has been providing rescues, rehabilitation, and rehoming for ferrets, and outreach and educational services for ferret owners and ferret caregivers throughout the Seattle region of Washington, State for more than three decades. In April 2025, the Shelter was ordered to undergo an emergency evacuation. A local SWAT team was handling gunfire at a nearby location, resulting in the arrest of two individuals in connection with the shooting. It was then that shelter vice president, Summer Krook, knew that the shelter and its nearly 200 ferrets needed to relocate: "We were responsible for little lives and we had to keep them safe," said Krook. In Fall 2025, WFRS moved its operations to its current location: 7802 27th St. W - University Place, WA 98466 USA The move represents a major milestone in the shelter’s 30-year history. The shelter now serves the entire Western Washington region— and beyond. With the new facility came significant improvements:
